Main Purpose of Job

The Systems Engineer is responsible for the monitoring, maintenance, and optimization of the company’s IT infrastructure. This role involves installing, configuring, and troubleshooting hardware and software to ensure seamless system performance. Additionally, the Systems Engineer will manage and support computer networks, providing technical expertise to maintain a secure, efficient, and reliable IT environment that aligns with business objectives.

The successful candidate will be a “self-managed” individual and work as part of a team that supports and helps each other within their own areas of expertise. The focus of this role is on the Microsoft portion of the IT estate (Windows Server, Active Directory, EntraID, Microsoft 365 and Windows Desktop) but some Linux exposure would be advantageous as we do also have a significant non-Microsoft estate

Main Responsibilities

  • Implementation and maintenance of the company's IT infrastructure, with a primary focus on Microsoft technologies, including Windows Server, Active Directory, and End-User Computing (EUC) environments.
  • Install, configure, and manage computer hardware, software, networks, printers, and other peripherals to ensure optimal system performance.
  • Oversee the monitoring and maintenance of IT systems and networks, proactively identifying and resolving issues to minimize downtime.
  • Provide expert-level technical support across the organization, both remotely and in person, ensuring a high standard of service.
  • Manage user accounts, access controls, and security policies within a Microsoft-based environment.
  • Lead the allocation, deployment, and maintenance of IT equipment, ensuring compliance with company policies and industry best practices.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot complex hardware and software issues, developing and implementing effective resolutions.
  • Maintain detailed IT asset records, tracking hardware lifecycles and planning proactive maintenance and upgrades.
  • Oversee the IT helpdesk function, prioritizing and resolving service requests efficiently while providing mentorship and guidance to junior staff.
  • Establish and enforce IT best practices, policies, and security protocols to enhance system reliability and cybersecurity.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support business objectives and lead IT-related projects and initiatives.
  • Assess and escalate critical issues when necessary, ensuring timely resolution and minimal operational impact.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum 3-year Tertiary qualification
  • 2 – 4 Year’s relevant experience
  • Comptia A+ - recommended
  • Comptia N+ - would be beneficial
  • Active Directory and EntraID experience
  • MS 365 and Exchange experience
  • Solid understanding of networking and hands-on experience
  • 2 – 4 Year’s Windows Server experience
  • Experience supporting a fleet of remote Windows laptops and users
